The American Killam Trusts

The Killam Fellowships Program is made possible through the generosity of the American Killam Trusts. The American Killam Trusts were established in response to the wills of Constance Killam and Elizabeth Killam Rodgers, the sisters of Sir Izaak Walton Killam. Mr. Killam was one of Canada's most successful financiers in the first half of the 20th century. He and his wife Dorothy devoted much of their wealth to higher education in Canada, through the Canadian Killam Trust. A number of Canadian Universities, along with a large number of leading edge researchers, have benefited from the generosity of the Killam Family through this trust. Like their brother, Elizabeth and Constance Killam, who had immigrated to Boston from Nova Scotia, were committed to post secondary education and to the advancement of knowledge. Having experienced life in both Canada and the United States, they specified that a portion of the funds from their trusts were be used to encourage mutual understanding between the two countries.
