How to Apply to the Killam Fellowships Program
Applicants may apply either to the direct exchange program or to the open competition. There is a single form for all Canadian applicants and a single form for all U.S. applicants. Please scroll down to access the 2009-10 application forms. ALL APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2009-2010 YEAR MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE FOUNDATION NOT LATER THAN JANUARY 31st, 2009.
Applicants to the direct exchange program must be registered at one of the participating universities and be planning to attend one of the participating universities in the other country. Applicants to the open competition may be students at any degree granting institution in the home country (including the participating universities) and be applying to any degree granting institution (including the participating universities) in the host country. Please consult the "our partners" section on this site to see a list of participating universities.
Direct exchange applicants must submit their applications to the relevant office at their home university (paying particular attention to the internal deadline of the institution). Participating universities may nominate up to three candidates (or six one semester candidates).
Open competition students may apply directly to the Foundation or through the study abroad office at their own institution. There are no limits to the number of applicants to the open competition. All applicants will be considered for the open competition.
All applications will be reviewed and ranked by an independent adjudication committee, comprised of faculty members from participating universities and senior officials from the Foundation. The committee will rank all candidates based on their proposed program of study, their personal statement, their record of academic achievement, and their letters of reference. The committee will produce a list of recommended candidates, which will include alternates.
All awards are subject to the availability of funds, acceptance by the host university, and the ability to secure appropriate visa arrangements.
