The Institute for Science, Society and Policy would like to invite you to a special presentation by ISSP Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Science and Society, Dr. Nigel Cameron, President and CEO of the Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies, a non-partisan Washington, DC think tank established in 2007 to encourage long-term thinking on the policy and broader social impacts of emerging technologies. Previously he was a Research Professor and Associate Dean at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, where he led projects focused on the social, business and policy impacts of developments in biotechnology and nanotechnology.

Dr. Cameron's talk will focus on how to address the challenge of political leadership in the complex and ever-changing context of emerging technologies.

Dr. Cameron, a graduate of Cambridge and Edinburgh universities and the Edinburgh Business School, has published extensively on the policy and ethical implications of emerging technologies. His next book addresses the potentially dire consequences of artificial intelligence and robotics for employment. Recent activities have included speaking at conferences convened by The Economist on innovation (in Hong Kong) and the digital revolution (Spain), chairing the GITEX conference on the Internet of Things (Dubai) and the first Global Summit on Connected Cars (DC), and addressing the Champalimaud Foundation conference (Portugal) on the world in one hundred years' time. He is also a Commissioner of the United States National Commission for UNESCO, and chairs its committee on Social and Human Sciences.
