Mobility programs, some of which are competitive, are designed to enhance the overall academic and professional experience for students and scholars currently taking up their awards. They allow Fulbright grantees to experience more and to reach out to individuals and institutions of interest in other parts of their host country.
Mobility programs available to American Fulbright grantees who are currently taking up their awards in Canada:
American Fulbright students and scholars at Orientation, Ottawa ON
- Fall Orientation in Ottawa is an annual event, hosted by Fulbright Canada, which brings new U.S. Fulbright grantees in Canada and Killam Fellows together to participate in a program of academic, cultural, and professional activities in Canada’s national capital.
- Visiting Scholar Speakers Program (up to CAD$1000), which operates on a competitive basis, provides U.S. Fulbright scholars with funds to travel to a different city or region of Canada for speaking engagements. Scholars may present at professional conferences or at Canadian institutions.
- Western Hemisphere Regional Travel Program is a Regional Travel Program for U.S. Fulbright scholars to share their professional and academic expertise, enhancing their experience and sharing their knowledge more widely. ;
- Professional Development Program (up to CAD$800) which operates on a competitive basis, provides U.S. Fulbright students with funds to travel to a different city or region of Canada for professional development. They may attend a professional conference or undertake a short-term travel project which is specifically related to their Fulbright project.
Mobility programs available to Canadian Fulbright grantees who are currently taking up their awards in the United States:
Canadian Fulbright Scholars
- The Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF) provides travel awards for Canadian Fulbright Scholars to guest lecture at colleges and universities during their grant period.
- Fulbright Location-based Enrichment Programs are sponsored with the assistance of a grant from the Department of State. A variety of enrichment activities are offered in different locations, allowing current Fulbright scholars to more fully experience America.
Canadian Fulbright Students
- Fulbright Gateway Enrichment Opportunity is a benefit made available to incoming Canadian Fulbright students by the Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). Gateway programs take place on pre-selected campuses in August and September. Students whose arrival time coincides with the events are identified and invited to attend.
- Enrichment Seminars, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, are a series of four-day seminars for foreign Fulbright students. These seminars take place throughout the country and are a wonderful opportunity to expand their experience in the U.S.
- Local Enrichment Events are opportunities to participate in local activities for Fulbrighters organized by the U.S. Department of State and partner organizations in cities across the U.S. For more information, please visit: Programs for Canadian Fulbright Students
